Hotel and spa with natural mineral spring one hour east of downtown San Diego. Haven’t been yet, but very high on my list of places to go. Aside from the aesthetics, I’m so drawn to the story surrounding the property and town. I dream of running my own space and love hearing success stories of others actualizing this!

I have always wanted to stay in one of these cottages, but they are very hard to book, and now it looks like the are under restoration. BUT.....if a beachside cottage is in the mix, it looks like they have other options on their website for vintage beachside cottage stays!

Not a spa or a place to eat or stay, but this museum is so lovely and it's small and doable without museum fatigue. Plus, the best Robert Irwin window installation...right on the ocean!

La Valencia Hotel La Jolla

Depending on what part of town you want to be in, La Jolla is a pretty nice home base for a San Diego visit. And La Valencia is a great choice. Check out the pool and grab a bite a the Whaling bar.

Lafayette Hotel San Diego

Historic hotel that got a full renovation a few years back. Every detail is so well thought out, a feast for the eyes! Haven’t had the pleasure of staying in one of the rooms, but I have eaten in Quixote (their Oaxacan-inspired restaurant) and imbibed at the Lobby Bar. Fair warning, it’s still quite buzzy and the area is tough for finding parking, valet is only for overnight guests.

i am very lucky to get to visit my aunt in san diego often and we both love a good meal, so we’ve been to many great spots. among them all, we are positively rabid about this place. it’s so, so good!
