My brain is so busy. I am a multipassionate, AuDHD woman with a lot of responsibilities: private practice, a household, a kid, and chronic health issues. My life is complicated. I also have many creative projects that I want to complete before my time here is through.
Between all the things that I want to do and that I need to keep track of, and with executive function issues, I need systems and structures to support me. I've already written about some tools for organization and task management. Morning Pages are another layer to my system. They provide a vent for all the garbled, swirling mental chatter, a forum for the chaos, so that it can be sorted and organized eventually, but mainly so I have a place to spew.
Doing Morning Pages regularly has become a sacred container for my ideas and insights. I have, indeed, been making more art since returning to this practice. And it feels that they have somehow actually made me more creative. They allow me to process and move through stuck energy like few other things. I'm so grateful for this practice.
The quick-and-dirty: First thing in the morning, within 45 minutes of waking up. You. Your journal. A favorite pen. 30 minutes. 3 pages. Write continuously, stream-of-consciousness, whatever comes out. Connect with yourself. Connect with your mind. Then go be amazing.
