One set of towels per person and one set of sheets per bed. That’s it! That’s all you need.
It’s eminently possible to live with just one set of towels and sheets if you follow my recommendation to do laundry every day. Having less household linen solves so many problems at once: It saves space, since you barely need to store anything——all the towels and sheets are either in the wash or in use. It makes laundry easier, since you don’t have to wash load after interminable load of heavy bedding. It reduces the allergens in your home. It obviates the need to match all your towels (though I recommend choosing a non-white towel color) and it minimizes stuff——the master key to a clean home.
If you like to have guests, you can add a sheet set for each guest bed, plus a 3-piece towel set for each guest. But store these in a closet or the guest room, and don’t let them enter the main circulation.
Enjoy your light, low-laundry life.
