Use hand towels as bath mats

One of the core principles of the House That Cleans Itself is having less stuff. Another is buying less stuff. Another is having and buying fewer types of stuff.

Yet another is choosing products that don’t require a separate routine to clean them. (Failing that, they should be easy to clean with just spray and a cloth.)

When I pull my daily laundry out of the dryer, I dump the towels in a designated towel basket. Since every set of towels seems to include two hand towels, I end up with lots. One gets put in each bathroom——for hands, you know. The inevitable extras become single-use bath mats for people to grab from the basket before they take a shower.

They are, simply, far easier and far less gross than any other type of bath mat. They make zero extra work. They are also zero extra purchases. When your shower is done, you use them to wipe the shower and clean water from the floor, then take them outta there and put them straight in the laundry. You’re left with a clean, beautifully uncluttered bathroom.

Who needs a traditional bath mat? Not you.
