This is a very detailed review!!
So HIMI is a little controversial. The brand is known for occasionally molding and not necessarily being something you can travel with because they’re open cups of paint and you have to deal with the paint drying out.
I paint on an almost daily basis and this was my first exposure to gouache paint because it was so popular online. The paint itself is fine. It’s not spectacular. It’s not bad.
I find that as I use it, I mix my own colors in the cups and refill from tubes of Winsor & Newton gouache. Now, I don’t mind the open cups because I paint so often and I never used tap water to rehydrate the paint. I also try and let the paint dry out for a little bit before closing it up for the day to help prevent mold.
Overall I like it enough to still be using it. I don’t know if it’s something I would purchase today if I was starting over, but I appreciate it in my routine and like having the space to mix a large amount of a color I use a lot that I mix myself.
Also I would like to make a note that they have had a couple of posts on the brand’s Instagram that were AI. So if you feel very strongly about AI I would not recommend this brand as a new purchase and would explore using other more airtight containers and getting tubes of gouache paint from another brand and making your own palette.
