On the Sunday before Thanksgiving for the last 5 years, some friends and friends of friends (about 30 of us now) in the Berkshires each bake and bring a pie. We meet at a local trailhead, park our cars, and take a brisk walk through the woods together. When we get back to the parking lot, everyone opens their trunks and hatches, reveals their pie(s), grabs their plate and fork and proceeds to sample the pies up and down the parking lot.
It might be my favorite day of the year, and it was created by my dear friend Kenzie Fields.
Here's how to have your own:
Pick a trailhead
Invite your friends to join on on the Sunday before Thanksgiving
Ask everyone to bake a pie and bring a fork and a plate
Meet at the trailhead and take a hike (45 mins is great)
Return to the parking lot, open your trunks, and SAMPLE ALL THE PIES
