buy your duvet one size bigger: it gives your bed a nice drapey look and if you share your bed you will never have to wrestle for the covers. Double bed->Queen duvet. Queen -> king. If you have a king you can get an "oversized king" (which is harder to find, but worth it!)

a feather bed: can’t recommend a feather bed highly enough, increases the comfiness of any bed by ~1,000%. you can also definitely find one cheaper than this link, the place i got mine from doesn’t sell them anymore but they do make gorgeous comforters!
