Rachel Kushner - Libra Sun, Aries Moon, unknown rising

We all know audiobooks are a sensitive medium that require the perfect combination of soothing voice and easy pacing to make it worthwhile, but a Libra will take you there. Kushner reads her own and they're fantastic. I listened to The Mars Room, which is as brutal and touching as you'd imagine from a story about a stripper from San Francisco serving life in prison. Really though it's about all the women she's incarcerated with, and at times it's hilarious and sweet. I read The Flamethrowers, about the 1970s NYC downtown art scene and Italian politics - plus motorcycle racing- but I'm sure it's just as fun of a listen. I'm a third of the way through Creation Lake now.

Regardless she writes about Venusian issues like art and social justice/status and uses Venusian tactics like satire and style. Yet her characters (and titles!) are hot messes, impulsive and Martian. it's a perfect balance of her Libra Sun and Aries Moon. . .
