This book was perfectly beautiful and frightening at the same time. A perfect October book. Susucaru looks gentle in the glass, pale and bright with raspberry and cherry, then turns spicy, savory, and saline, with a flinty, smoky streak underneath.
Beauty on dangerous ground. The grapes grow in black lava soil on the slopes of Mount Etna, an active volcano. The novel’s children grow up somewhere just as lovely and just as unstable.
Smoke in the background. That smoky mineral edge echoes the fire at the center of the family’s history.
Its a blend. It’s a field blend of red and white grapes, farmed organically and made with native yeast and no added sulfur. It’s a little wild and unguarded. stanleys
