Louder Than Fear (Documentary on Hulu)

I was unaware of much about Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker before watching this doucmentary. I had heard his work, since it appears on a ton of records. Deep in the recesses of my mind I knew there was some connection to reality TV. But those things didn't really surface. I watched because every documentary I have seen about drumming has lifted my spirits.

This was no exception. I was riveted. The footage spans decades. Like the best docs, this one unspools with a steady stream of twists and surprises. My husband came in mid-stream and said he wasn't going to watch, but he physically could not move from the couch. The story resolves more beautifully than either of us could have imagined.

This is a warmhearted, fascinating journey through a man's transition from wounded boy to inspiring leader. I'm not going to spoil a single thing by saying more. The subject matter is heavy and at times painful. Some episodes are glossed over, but it feels honestly done. You believe that every untold backstory serves Travis Barker's long arc towards healing. Even through a couple of bouts of tears, I felt uplifted and inspired.
