just doing something for the sake of doing it

at lunch with my granddad he told me that he will never be able to truly win a game of golf so now he just “plays to play golf”. he said he’d never be completely fluent in Spanish (despite his weekly tutoring sessions) so he’s just doing it for the sake of learning Spanish.

I honestly don’t know why this resonated with me so much because this is basically “it’s not about the destination it’s the journey” but my granddad made it cooler in my head.
