Alice Carrière- a fellow downtown art world child who I somehow missed amidst all the Pleats Please pants and forearm sized rats- writes so movingly about the loss of identity that can occur when a parent’s commitment to their work is their first and greatest attachment. Always honest, never moralistic, she tracks the winding and explosive path to her adulthood with a clarity and poeticism that proves she, too, is a great artist- no matter how she tried to run from the fate.

“a wild ride. very emotional and intense. if you like memoirs for raw honesty and storytelling and fucked up family dynamics, this is for you.”
