I Can See (Nick Hakim)

nick hakim mannnn — i saw him in Cambridge about 2 weeks ago, and what a trip.

the vibe is sort of psychedelic r&b, with this hazy, almost dreamlike quality to it. just over an hour of music across twelve evenly paced tracks, all tied together by this warm, tape-recorded, analog feel. there’s a real sense of cohesion to the record; the mood is established from the first track and never really lets up. everything feels a little woozy, intimate, and slightly off-kilter, like you’re listening to something unfolding in the next room over. the production has this beautiful balance of warmth and murkiness that makes the whole thing feel lived-in rather than overly polished.

it’s the kind of record that feels less concerned with individual standout moments and more interested in pulling you into its own world. best experienced front to back, preferably with nowhere else to be.
