book review - the god of the woods by liz moore ♥︎ㅤ

it’s been a while since i’ve read a mystery book this good. i stayed up until 3am just so i could finish it. it’s crazy how i was wagging my finger at every character and getting so hooked trying to figure out what the fuck actually happened. every time i thought i had it figured out, the book would throw something else at me and make me suspicious of someone new. i really loved the pacing too because it never felt slow, and the different povs every chapter made everything feel even more tense and layered.

what i liked the most was how atmospheric the whole book felt. the setting almost felt like its own character, and there was this constant feeling that something was wrong even during the quieter moments. liz moore did such a good job building that sense of dread and obsession around the family and the camp. i also liked how messy and human the characters were because nobody felt completely innocent or completely evil.

overall a genuinely great mystery book and one of those stories that keeps sitting in your head after you finish it. i just wish there was a little more about louise and barbara because i was really interested in them, but at the same time i get why the book ended the way it did. i honestly think the unanswered parts are part of what makes the story hit so hard.
