I feel like it's a cliche of the semi-outdoorsy, bi-sexual woman who listens to NPR and has a tote bag filled with her other tote bags, but I've only ever driven Subarus, and they've never let me down.
I like the Crosstrek, I settled for the Forester because I got a good deal. Great for adventures.

I came here to say exactly this but I think you've said it better. Three other considerations - Foresters are excellent in the snow, have ample trunk space for craigslist finds, and run better if you've named them...

this is true, I should not bring shame on my Forester! It has handled many a snow storm and cross country move.
(the cross-trek colors are just v cute)
The cross-trek colors are so much better. My only complaint of Margo the Mammoth is her dreary silver paint job. We like to park her next to other Subarus and I've caught her eyeing some of their flashy colors.
All Subies are good Subies. It's like dogs.
As a proud owner of a Subaru Forester for six years, I still can only aspire to be a semi-outdoorsy bisexual woman someday
I've had my outback for 15yrs! it's a tank. i've driven it like a snow plow thru 4ft of snow in MI, i've taken it thru back country in northern CA, i've driven it for years in LA & NY with props & bolts of fabric, carted my nieces and nephews safely to school, joy rides w. friends, you name it. I love it so much. And yes, I too have a tote bag full of tote bags in the back.
Subarus are great! If I wasn't emotionally, sentimentally, and aesthetically committed to my Volvo I would have one. My MIL's Forester has been going strong for two decades now coast to coast; it's a marvel!
