There used to be parts of Manhattan that were not gentrified, that belonged to the locals and didn’t welcome newbies. The biker bar on the faaaaar west side was a trip to the unknown.

Manhattan in the 90s was the last gasp of authentically “unique New York” that existed before the Disneyfication took hold. Now absolutely everything is so GD extra, for no reason orher than corporate profit gauging. I miss this.
