Sleeping Bear sand dunes were a core memory of my childhood. The charming towns around there — like Leland — feel like Maine fishing villages.

Omg yes! They would bus us out to the dunes every summer at camp and if you went up and down 10 times each you would get a free ice cream, I did it every year!
