A drama about two sisters in the last few days before a rogue planet named Melancholia collides with Earth. I’m not personally all that big on von Trier in general, but the combination of the apocalyptic and the intimate makes this compelling and uniquely memorable.

I don’t quite get the hype for him either. I have a friend who’s a bit TOO into Antichrist and I couldn’t even feign interest in Nymophomaniac. But Melancholia? Yeah it’s actually pretty good.

I still remember sneaking out of my first real office job a few hours early because I wanted to see this in the theater before its run ended. The volume was deafening (complimentary).
