I've been meaning to read The Red Winter let me know how it is!!
I don’t usually believe in guilty pleasures but I loved this and then went went on Goodreads and saw the reviews about how there are no good women characters and was like whoops, okay guilty pleasure it is 🫣 But on the other hand you’ve got a 1000+yo sorcerer and the literal demon inside his head dealing with werewolves in 18th century France (loosely based on historical events (VERY loosely)), gods and devils, Joan of Arc (VERY loosely), a irreverent succubus (of course there’s a succubus, given the criticism, but also she’s maybe the best character? I want a spin-off), and even some pre-French Revolution eat-the-rich sentiment. Also it’s so dryly funny, and since our narrator is perhaps immortal the modern tone and wit works so well. So I loved it but it’s polarizing and I can’t readily dismiss the charge of sexist tropes!
