As a kid, I hid from my dad when it was time to pull splinters out of my feet and palms, but he was as gentle as a person tweezing slivers of wood out of your skin can be. I’d hold a cube of ice to the area, and when it was numb (sort of) he’d surgically (kinda) remove the foreign body. Wishing everyone luck as we remove ten thousand splinters from our children’s feet this summer.

Also, if you're desperate, letting them have some special screentime of some sort helps numb the pain (while numbing the mind...). It's saved me in a pinch!
