Quakers have been around since the mid-1600s being anti-authoritarian radicals, doing community meditation, working for peace. They don’t subscribe to doctrines or rituals and minister to each other.

My ex’s mom was a Quaker (and he was a creative, lovely, non-toxically masculine product of Friends school education) and on the evening of 9/11, we went to a vigil they held, even though I had never been to any services. I was barely 20 and so scared and it was the most hopeful, peaceful experience I ever had in a gathering of people.
