"You are what you love, not what you loves you" was my myspace profile quote moments after finishing this movie for the first time.

I am beyond grateful that my dad didn't share the "lore" behind the movie until it was finished, and I want to do the same for you all. If you like meta, self-referential art, or any of Charlie Kaufman's other films, then watch and swoon and then google the heck out of it all when you're done.

It's brilliant in a purposely clumsy sort of way, and does everything I want a movie to do - make me laugh, cry, think, relate, change me to my core in the best way.

I was young when I watched Adaptation for the first time and quite literally, doing so shifted my insides around forever and made me a different person by the time it was over. It made me feel understood and seen and like this crazy anxious constant nonsense that jumbled around in my brain 24/7 could be a driver of creativity instead of just frustration and isolation.

I love Charlie Kaufman, and had the privilege to see him speak at Yale earlier this year and it was really wonderful. He's a great speaker. Don't be surprised when his BAFTA speech pops up as a future recommendation :P
