Secret Stairs by Charles Fleming (2010)

If you live in LA you MUST get this book and do the walks. The first week we moved there someone let us borrow theirs and it changed our lives. As you do the guided walks (map and narrative directions included for each), you encounter neighborhoods that are off the main drag and learn lots of history tidbits along the way. Charles has a way of throwing crucial directions next to some fascinating story about Raymond Carver and making you miss your turn. But that’s the beauty of staircase walks; sometimes you double back and see the view from two different vantage points.

It makes me feel that there’s some hidden treasure around any corner.
