Megan Phelps-Roper’s memoir “Unfollow”: Haven’t listened to the audiobook but I found the story very very inspiring. It gets pretty intense (so may not be your vibe right now) and I frankly started out somewhat skeptical, but I like memoir format most of all and was pretty curious - then ultimately found this one lovely in a profound and unforgettable way.

Side note: if you’re into weird and wacky deep-dives, highly recommend watching the first two of Louis Theroux’s WBC profiles beforehand (save the third for after reading, chronologically).

how to murder your life by cat marnell: she’s crazy but she’s FREE! her memoir details her… turbulent upbringing/working as a beauty editor in nyc/drug use. she goes through really dark stuff but her creativity and dreams get her through everything… she also narrates the audiobook herself and i enjoyed it greatly

Priestdaddy by Patricia Lockwood: A rare non fiction favorite, and a book that broke me out of a long reading drought and made me laugh out loud so often that even strangers felt compelled to ask what in the world I was reading.

The author is a poet who moves back in with her parents when her husband is getting eye surgery. The twist is that her father is a Catholic Priest and Patricia is not religiously persuaded. My therapist thinks I idealize Patricia’s ability to turn anything (even pain) into a beautiful cosmic joke that only she is in on. Maybe I do! All I know is ever since I read this I have felt like I can approach heavy feelings with more lightness. Every sentence is lyric genius and stands alone.
