I refuse to purse but will happily carry this everywhere. It's extremely well made, about the size of a nice hardcover book and fits within it any number of notebooks, index cards, maps, pens, small trinkets, camera film, stasher bags, etc. The Swiss Army had patterns manufactured by local cobblers and saddlemakers across the cantons so each one is slightly different, but the general proportions and utility remain the same. The strap is adjustable, and the hardware and leather are on par with or better than the nicest vintage Filson bag. Oodles of patina, and I love that it carries everything I might need without excess frippery. I am asked about this bag about three times a week, on average.

This is so cool! Unfortunately when I just searched "leather map case" on ebay a lot of the results were German WWII era items or replicas and I do not want to contemplate why that is the case! So I will make sure to specify Swiss in the future!
I feel like Swiss Army stuff in particular is a great way around unsavory associations. Wear with clean conscience!
If searching online, I recommend the late '70s models. They are a little thicker in leather and often have less wear. Pay close attention to the front closure strap. It always seems to wear quicker than the rest of the bag, but if that's in good condition you can get a solid 15-20 years of use out of the bag. Mine is going on 14!
