One of the greatest sartorial cons I can think of, apart from the chronic shortchanging of pockets in women's clothes, is the lack of boxers for women. I see no good reason for this. Boxers are airy, non-synthetic, comfort-forward, quick-drying, don't leave a line under pants or skirts, last for years, cost little, double as fantastic loungewear/run-outside-to-fetch-the-paper-wear, and treble as good serendipitous swimwear when you come across a really good river or lake. I stole a pair from my husband a few years ago and never looked back.
And yet, my unscientific survey across the locker rooms of America confirms that I am nearly alone in this opinion. I can't help but suspect it's simply because it's never occurred to most of us that we can. No one cares but you! Be the change (of underwear) you want to see in the world! Rise up and expel the British from China!
