Amusing Ourselves to Death (Neil Postman)
$16.78
My hobby horse is the death of literacy and its implications for our civic lives. Postman is using TV in the 80s but social media only accelerates his arguments. I still think about his points about the importance of literary culture for political formation in the lead up to the civil war.

“A prophetic voice from the 80’s that feels more relevant with each passing year.”

“Go check it out from your local library. Written in the 80s, eerily prescient for our times.”

“Do you also worry about disappearing literacy for people of all ages? This book is for you. It’s written in reaction to the rise of television but every argument is even more applicable to our short form internet world.”
