"no" is, honestly, probably the worst thing they could say

this one certainly isn't an original, but i remember one summer--i was probably 15 or 16--and i was looking for a job and kept getting turned down.

papa: why don't you go apply at such and such
me: they're just going to say no
papa: so? what's the worst thing they can do? say no?
me: silence
me: applied for job
me: didn't get job
me: was okay
