The Panorama of the City of New York at the Queens Museum!

Looking for off the beaten path day trip recommendations for NYC. I grew up going often and have done most of the major sights; my husband’s been a few times and has covered the big stuff too. Our girls (9 and 12) came once, two years ago and we did the Natural History Museum, Central Park, Balthazar, and John’s Pizza. We’re considering the Met but aren’t sold on it. Looking for recs that feel a bit more unique/local rather than the standard tourist spots bonus points for family-friendly.

The largest model ever built! The jewel in the crown of the Queens Museum! Walk across the meadow and have lunch in Flushing after!

“Queens Museum! Each of the city’s 895,000 buildings constructed prior to 1992 and every street, park and some 100 bridges are represented and assembled onto 273 individual sections comprising the 320 square miles of New York City.”
