i was 19 and studying abroad and so thrilled to be immersed in berlin’s whole scene for 5 weeks. my friends and i saw ratatat (peak) and went to clubs and gamely studied weimar era art history by day. i’d be so late off the u-bahn (stop: dahlen dorf) but made time for a newsstand cappuccino and croissant every day we had class.
our professor’s name was gail. gail who? no clue. she was a delightful woman in her late seventies whose enthusiasm about art history made our classes really fun. gail was giddy, game, and also quite glamorous. she took us on field trips to the bauhaus archive and let us have a super long lunch in dresden that ended with a wine bottle opened with a river rock. gail was generous in her capacity as an educator because she encouraged us to experience everything!
i really loved atmosphere, but this show does not stand the test of time for best sound quality, music, or venue by any means.
it was fucking awesome because gail came with us.
