I'm so glad you mentioned The Body Keeps The Score, I didn't mention it in my original rec but I really disliked that book.

yeah i couldn't finish it, as much as i kind of wanted to so i could understand the discourse surrounding it. i think elements of it are probably good but other elements are deeply problematic lol. Thank you for this rec tho!

I recommend the audiobook. It includes actual recorded audio of parts of therapy sessions with her trauma specialist. She’s a journalist and basically does critical analysis of her own therapy transcripts in partnership with her doctor. It’s enlightening

“Holy s***! I couldn’t put this book down and read it in 3 days. The book is a must for anyone who went through developmental or foundational trauma, or repeated abuse in their adult life. It is Especially powerful for children of immigrants as the book also explores then intergenerational trauma that we now know is passed down genetically to us (three generations). Stephanie offers a raw and power”

“Such a good cook on complex trauma. I like how it includes both the author’s story and scientific research together.”
