This album is widely regarded as Madonna's magnum opus, and the older I get, the more I appreciate why.
Collaborating with electronic producer William Orbit, it took her four months to record - the longest she's ever spent recording an album. Worth it, imho.
Ray of Light debuted at no. 2 on the Billboard 200 with the highest first-week sales for a woman at the time. It topped the charts of 17 countries, won multiple Grammy awards and has now sold over 16 million copies globally.

her ∞ playlist is a great source of new music too that pulls from eras of indie alt dance. AND HAPPY BDAY!! 🎊

thank you thank you!
i appreciate this album so much! it also brings me to back to this fun western pop star trope of the time. my moms belt buckles, boot cut pants and turquoise bracelets.
Yes! And even design-wise, this is my favorite album. The "Ray of Light" logo is so chic. I love Madonna's Raphaelite curls and the contrast with the deep teal.
Also, this album has FROZEN. That music video!
