I loved this book! I haven’t read A Little Life, but I loved Yanagihara’s writing so much that it makes me want to try to tackle it… but I’ve been put off a bit by how people talk about it as being The Saddest Thing Ever. What was your favorite section? I was kinda stunned that — while I liked all of it — the 1993 Hawaii part with the man and his father is what stuck with me emotionally for the longest.

Same! I haven't read a little life either; I'm concerned it might be activating in ways that I don't want to welcome into my nervous system. But I love her writing so much too that I've considered it a few times. Honestly, I loved them all and think all of the sections needed each other, which was maybe the most beautiful part-- that all the parts were crucially interconnected. The 1993 section in Hawaii also stuck with me. Anytime the house or a series of objects appeared, I was very sensually raptured by the writing; that was truly one of my favorite aspects of the work aside from the tenderness and complexity of the character themselves.
