Start with a good rug to center the room then you can have art pieces that are more specific to each of them above their beds. Also I think one solid bookshelf anchors a room and is good for mixed interests.

Oh and God speed! My son and daughter also share a room but they are younger than yours so I haven’t gotten to any difficulty with it yet.
