For my niece's first birthday, I gave her a bracelet for adding charms. Each year, I'll add a charm to the collection. I try to find something that represents the year (I'm currently on the hunt for a cute cat charm since she got a kitten this year and carries it all around the house). It's a simple sterling silver collection; I can find cute charms at Lewis & Clark in Santa Barbara.

My mom did this for me growing up. Anytime she went out of town, she got me a charm. Last year I got the bracelet resized to fit me as an adult and it’s one of my most prized possessions.
