Beautiful pottery in a beautiful location! Run by the third and fourth generations of the same family, this studio is an Orcas fixture. It sits amongst a lush garden overlooking the ocean where you'll find pottery not only inside, but arranged across picnic tables and tucked throughout the grounds.

This is great bookstore with a nice little cafe counter in the back. The best part? They maintain a critter counter list by the window overlooking the bay. Spotted: eagles, otters, etc.

Not an island, but Edison, just south of Bellingham, is the most charming little village with a teeny main street full of art galleries, restaurants, and cute shops. Definitely worth a stop!

Lummi Island holds such a special place in my heart. My family has been going there for the summer for decades. It's so charmingly unassuming, with a (that means - one) grocery store, maybe two restaurants I think? An perfect library, a coffee shop out of an airstream, and beautiful, rocky beaches. Absolutely worth an overnight, or a month. Either way.
