Joyride: A Memoir (Susan Orlean)

it will be a long time before i shut up about this book.

i've been crawling through a deeply consuming breakup, and am still at the stage where the majority of media repulses me. every story seemingly ties back to love, and each stings stronger than the last. i'd shivered my way through a handful of other books before arriving at this one, which quite literally did take me for a joyride.

based solely on a survey amongst a handful of friends, susan orlean is a criminally overlooked and refreshingly humble journalist who spent many years on-staff at the new yorker whilst writing an admirable amount of non-fiction books that went on to receive remarkable praise.

there is a minor subplot that details the unraveling of her marriage, and it feels chillingly-similar to my situation, but the way that she moves through it and doesn't allow it to occupy enough space to define her, is something i'm aspiring to.
