Oh yes, tin collecting is real! When I travel I like to find cookies or tea in tins so I can bring it home and remember where I visited while the tin does something useful for me. My latest tin came from Ireland - it is a small green rectangular tin, about 2 inches high, with a bus imprinted around it. It will hold pins once I’m done with the green tea. Yay!

Wait what do you put in them? How do you know what’s in them? I’m confused about pantry use! I love tins and use them for ephemera and have never even considered pantry use. Tell me more, p please!

I use light washi or masking tape and a sharpie fine point pen to write labels for them! You can see a couple labels in the pic. But honestly I need to update a couple of them haha - some are outdated and I just see if I remember what’s in what each time I’m looking for something. The labeling definitely is the way to go, though!

And I put nuts, dried fruit, flour, cornmeal, sugar, rice, beans, lentils… Pretty much anything that doesn’t come in a hard container of its own! I am not a huge decanter for the sake of decanting myself, but find tins/jars really helpful for making sure things are stored securely.
