Honestly changed my idea of what art is. A lot of the art here would be best considered folk art, but you really feel the years of passion and dare I say, joy, in each piece. There's a woman who started decorating doors after her grandmother died from a faulty trailer door, but she honors her memory through an outpouring of bright mixed media pieces glorifying her memory and the textiles that remind the artist of her: buttons, Blue Willow China. Another piece was carved for over 15 years from one tree by one man using handmade tools, and appears to be the only piece of art he ever created - but what a piece. Another spent his life grafting trees into structures that he called The Tree Circus, which would traditionally never be considered art but is now preserved lovingly in this museum long after the trees have died. They also appear to hold classes where you can create; recommend you check it out!

“the best, weirdest art museum. every placard has a bonkers story worth reading. every. single. one.”
