For small spaces—or any space where a hallway or doorway could become a point of interest AND intrigue—a little pop of pattern is a genuine delight. I did something similar in our cabin (seen here), opting to use a pair of 100-year-old (slightly tattered) silk curtains to enclose our sole utility closet instead of a proper door. If you need to soften an area or just add some depth to a dull spot, a big swag of gorgeous fabric always seems to do the trick.
