Japanese fiction is paced and structured a bit differently than Western in ways that I find very consuming but also relaxing. This slim book is the first of a two book series that tells the story of a woman who walks away from her professional and personal life to take over a small bookshop owned by a relative. It's quiet, introspective, sweet, thoughtful, and above all I found it very calming.

“I really enjoyed this book as an easy, light read last year. The sequel’s lovely too. Gives you such a vivid sense of the coffee shop culture in Japan.”

“Comfy, light and warm read. It feels like taking a walk with the protagonist through the streets of Tokyo. Helps with me deal with my Sehnsucht of Japan.”
