Find a good women’s health doctor in your town using the ISSWSH provider directory

I recently relocated to a town where I know nobody and needed to find a new doctor. I work in women’s health and know all too well about how much our doctors don’t learn about our bodies in medical school. I’m entering perimenopause so when I moved, I was concerned about finding a doctor who was up on the latest science and discourse (hello HRT).

Enter ISSWSH, the acronym (pronounced like “IS WISH”) for the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health. This is the **only** medical association dedicated to understanding and advancing female sexual medicine.

So when I moved, I used their directory of medical providers who have received training/education cred from ISSWSH. It doesn’t vouch for bedside manner, but when you are navigating the women’s health research gap as it relates to your own care, this is the best way to know you’re getting a doc who is up on the latest research.

Because I have found that a doctor who goes out of their way to study women’s sexual health is a doctor who has gone out of their way to understand the female body, period.

Oh and there’s a lot of overlap between doctors who are members of ISSWSH and the Menopause Society—another good resource for a provider search.

My local menopause docs are all concierge medicine. Which I get, but also can’t afford. :/

It’s a sad reality, but hopefully it’s changing in our lifetimes. We really are in a golden age of discovery about the female body—there is so much we don’t know and is slowly getting uncovered as money starts to trickle in from investors—and it’s very very slowly transforming the medical education system. But change is happening. But there are lots of other great doctors who also have the training that Silicon Valley’s Dr. Sally Greenwald has, and ISSWSH is a top resource to know who these docs are, if you’re lucky enough to live near one — and who isn’t just concierge!
