the royal tenenbaums
I think a good icebreaker for a distinct subset of people is: “Which Wes Anderson movie do you most identify with?”
I found myself laughing almost completely alone at many scenes in the theater when I saw this on screen. As someone who felt unseen and/or not understood by their parents, it resonated in a way that was both funny and poignant. Still my fave Wes Anderson movie to this day. The soundtrack is on point as well.

“I've soured on Wes Anderson a bit over the years — I think his last few films have almost been so gratuitously Wes Anderson that they've completely lost the plot. The Royal Tenenbaums still rules them all.”

“One of my favorite movies and also casts. Margot is a mood.”

“One of my favorites streaming in HBO Max. How is this mivie 25 years old? (Margot) "You probably don't even know my middle name." (Royal) "That's a trick question. You don't have one." (Margot) "Helen." (Royal) "That was my mother's name." (Margot) "I know it was."”
