It takes a unique type of sociopathy (that I wouldn't know anything about) to double down in that instance and demand there's a Soho in Sydney as well.
Almost this exact scenario is detailed in a song called Try Again by Andy Shauf (he, a Canadian, imitates a Brit’s accent to flirt, and she calls him out on it).
His response is: “I’m sorry, I’m from a different part of the country.” 😉 So that’s always an option too if you find yourself in that exact bind again — pick an obscure part most Brits haven’t been to!
And if you're a high achiever enjoy telling an underarchiever bio. (I wouldn't have known he was a celebrity if his GF hadn't insisted I Google his name; he was not amused.)
My sister retired from an HR position at a lab and at her retirement party, I kept telling people about my “particle accelerator experiment” that I needed to get back to. I work in tech marketing and have no business anywhere near a lab 😅
I love it.
Lower stakes but maybe good practice? Just use a ridiculous alternate name at Starbucks or other places where they call out your name.IN University we were Kafka, Joan of Ark, etc
