The Great Believers by Rebecca Makka

Although it’s fiction, this book taught me so much. It expanded my understanding and perspective of the AIDS crisis and its lasting impacts on communities, friend groups, families. Fluctuating between Chicago in the 80s and Paris in present day, it was a raw story full of complex human emotion and relationships, navigating illness and the fear of illness while trying to live a normal life. It’s an important read and will stick with me for a long time.
