this was pitched to me as “sex and the city but in the 1920s” and somehow it ends up being even better than that already sounds. the author wrote it initially under a pseudonym in 1929 about her personal experience with divorce and having to be single again, in a time when that was superrr scandalous. it became an instant hit in 1929. “I may not be pure, but thank heaven I look immaculate”
