Chantal Akerman has made some very important films that I hold closely - and this one hits hard, especially for anyone with a complicated relationship to immediate family. Akerman has a delicate way of encroaching on life’s most uncomfortable topics - and in this - she treads on her relationship with her overbearing and manipulative mother. A visual collage / tone poem, sometimes more art than film. More human than anything. A time capsule and love letter to an NYC that no longer exists. I love her work so much.
