A few years ago, I was trying to find a movie I loved as a kid and wanted to watch again, but it wasn’t available on any streaming service. I knew I still owned the DVD, so I went to my local thrift store, found a DVD player for under $30, brought it home, and hooked it up to my TV.
Since then, I’ve collected more than 20 DVDs of movies and shows I know I love. Now I never have to worry about a streaming service removing something from its library—I can just pop in the DVD and press play.
Some of my favorites in my collection are The Sixth Sense, The Silence of the Lambs director’s cut, the original The Devil Wears Prada, Zodiac, The Simpsons Season 1, Cast Away, Finding Nemo, and more. There’s something satisfying about actually owning the things you love instead of having to rely on a streaming service to keep them available.
