The Medium (2021)

Although this is a Thai-language Thai film, I’m adding it to my Korean horror recommendations because it’s a collaboration between Korean production house Showbox and Thai production house GDH 559.

The film follows a shaman who is being filmed in a documentary-style exploration of her life and work. What begins as a look into shamanism slowly descends into a terrifying story of possession, with the crew documenting everything from the first signs of possession to the eventual exorcism.

But this isn’t your typical exorcism movie where a priest shows up, performs a ritual, and the evil is gone. The horror comes from watching the family dynamics unravel, the shaman begin to question her own faith, and the entity manipulate everyone in ways you simply don’t see coming.

And the best part? You’ll be questioning what’s actually happening right up until the final minute. The twists will absolutely mess with you.
