Japanese tea ceremony is often described as a form of meditation because of the rituals involved. You’re fully present, moving slowly and intentionally, focused on one thing at a time.
I’ve realized I have my own version of this: cleaning and conditioning my leather jacket and leather goods.
It takes me at least an hour. I clean each piece, condition the leather, buff it, and take my time with the process. There’s no multitasking, no notifications, no rushing. Just me, my hands, and something tangible in front of me.
And every time I’m done, I feel strangely refreshed.
Maybe that’s what I love about analog activities. They don’t have to be productive or even particularly exciting. Sometimes, having a ritual that forces you to slow down and be completely present is enough.
